Family Ties is a quarterly e-newsletter that bridges the information gap between Washington University family members and life on campus. Family Ties focuses its content around issues regarding student life on campus that family members might find pertinent to the time of year that the publication is released. The goal of Family Ties is to provide parents with information they can’t read about in other campus publications.

Students and their families can get alerts by downloading the WashU Mobile App and “allow notifications.” You will then receive all campus-wide alerts that our emergency operations team pushes out to the campus.
At times, the University sends separate communication to family members about current events both on- and off-campus. These messages typically come from Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton or Vice Chancellor Lori S. White. In order to receive these messages directly, a parent or family email address must be linked to a student’s individual Student Information System (SIS) record. Students or their family members can contact the First Year Center at firstname.lastname@example.org to have their email address updated in SIS. Please include the following in your email:
